The question of whether or not making a living playing online poker is possible is one that pops up time and time again. After all, wouldn’t everybody love to play a great game like poker instead of having a standard nine to five job? But just because this sounds like a great idea...

Can I make a Living Playing Online Poker?

, it does not mean that it is easy to do. Poker is a game of skill, and one that takes plenty of time to master.  So simply put there is no cut and dry answer to the question of making a living playing poker online.  But instead there are two answers; yes and no.

The first thing that you need to take into consideration if you want to play online poker for a living is your level of skill.  The bottom line is that in order to turn online poker into a full-time job you are going to have to be good at what you do.  As a rule of thumb you should not try to turn this into a job until you are comfortable with your playing strategy and have proven yourself online time and time again.  If you can win money at poker on a part-time basis, chances are that you may be able to add to those earnings if you go full-time.

Even though playing online poker for a living may sound like all fun and games, there are two aspects that are anything but fun.

1. If you are relying on poker to pay your bills you are going to feel an enormous amount of stress day in and day out.  You will go into every game knowing that you have to win in order to make ends meet.  In addition, when you lose things are only going to get worse in your head.  The fact of the matter is that in order to deal with this stress you will need to have a lot of mental strength and endurance.  If you cannot deal with this sort of stress you will be better suited playing online poker part-time.  Over time this stress can have a negative affect on your game.  Take this into careful consideration.

2. Anybody that earns their living playing online poker will tell you that there are a lot of ups and down.  And with these ups and downs comes a fluctuating income.  There may be some months when you are real hot and win the majority of the time.  But on the other end of things there will be other months where you simply cannot catch a break; in some cases droughts can last for quite some time.  You will need to be aware of this before you jump in full-time.  Remember, when you leave your day job your steady income goes out the window.

To keep yourself safe, you will want to make sure that you have a nest egg saved up in the bank in case you run into a dry spell.  This will help to get you through the tough times so that you do not have to go back to a traditional job.  You can build savings up by playing part-time online while still working full-time at your day job.  When you are comfortable with the money that you have as a backup reserve you can then jump into full-time online poker if desire to do so.

It is possible to make a living playing online poker.  But at the same time it is not as easy at it may seem.  Follow the three tips above if you are thinking about turning this dream into a reality.  Who knows, you may become a huge success and never have to step foot into the corporate world again!
