Recently on a gambling sports forum there was a debate whether major poker sites are being rigged. Specifically a site that deals strictly with Texas hold’em. The thread was started by a guy who felt he’s been screwed over because of what he perceived as a series of bad beats.
That?s natural when things are going bad, but in my opinion, rigging an online gambling poker site just doesn?t make any sense. The people who run these sites are businessmen in an industry that is lucrative enough they don?t have to cheat to make money. In fact it makes more sense profit wise to run things on the up and up.
Anybody who has run a business knows that the key to long term success and increased net worth cannot be achieved by shortchanging the customers. Businesses are built by trust, word of mouth and good reviews. I?ve been running my own construction business for twenty years, another industry that has gotten bad reviews over the years so I know what I?m talking about. It?s been proven that if you do a good job, that person will tell two people, but if you do a bad job that person will tell twenty people. In the case of gambling sites there is nothing better than having winners promoting their site. A surefire way to lose your business is to screw someone by not paying them or cheating them.
Recently, my trust in online gambling was tested. Four straight times my deposit disappeared in short order. And all in the same manner. Win early, and then slowly lose it all as I waited for my fortunes to turn. My fifth deposit turned things around. My total winnings were more than double what my total overall losses had been. Customers are attracted by stories of winning. An casino online has to be even better than a live casino because of that underlying feeling from players wondering if the cards are being rigged when things are going badly.
A couple of key areas that can make online casinos appear like they might not pay out as well are not due to the casino margins being tougher, but a direct result of the customers not adjusting their playing style to online playing. How so?
Online the games are generally quicker resulting in more hands played per hour. More hands per hour means the house increases the houses overall advantage because a players total gross wagers per hour is increased. Below is a partial list of things that slow down the hand per hour rate at the casino.
? Waiting for other players to make decisions and play their hands slows the play at live casinos.
? Having new players join in and waiting for the dealer to count the cash, count the chips and get the pit boss approval.
? Waiting for players to cash out.
? The cards get dealt quicker.
? The players get paid quicker and their losses get picked up faster.
? Banter between players or between the dealer and the players.
? Dealer errors that require the pit boss to sign off.
? Buying drinks.
In order to combat this, the player must slow down the play by taking breaks and taking time making decisions. There?s a natural tendency to speed up your play online. Taking breaks is one of the perks of playing online and people should take advantage of it as much as possible.
