Exists two good reasons for playing more than one hand. One is that it gives a player more control over his fate with regard to card placement. The other is that there's more control over money management. There’s more to gambling then just blinding playing the percentages. Two or three hands give a person the ability to play safe or be aggressive.
Here are some examples:
Situation average
Everyone has been in this situation before when playing one hand. Luck not good, bankroll diminishing and you?ve been dealt 16 and the last 4 cards played were all smaller ones. The dealer is sitting there with a 7 showing. You know in your gut that a big card is due, but hate sitting on 16 facing the prospect of the dealing drawing a face card. With two hands it can be quite different. The same 16 on your first hand and a pat 20 on the second allows you to stand knowing that there?s a good chance of at least a split whether you hit or stay pat on 16. At all times, your attitude should be to keep as many hands in play as possible. Too many people think they have to hit 15 or 16 when facing a superior up card from the dealer. Give yourself a chance to win both by staying whenever possible. And having one good hand to offset a bad hand usually makes the decision easier.
Situation poor
First hand has 16, the second hand has 13, the dealer has an 8. I?d sit on the 16 and hit the second hand. First of all it gives you one hand alive for certain, and gives an extra 3 cards available to fill the second hand. When a person starts hitting and not getting the right results second guessing starts and that can lead to mistakes. We cannot predict the cards and say we made the wrong decisions, we need to stick to the same game plan over the long haul. If you?re serious about playing solid, practicing these kind of situations will give you the confidence to stick to your guns over the long haul. Gambling is a marathon, not a sprint. Try this situation 20 times and decide what?s right for you.
Situation good
You?ve got a pat 20 hand and the dealer is showing a 7. Your other hand totals 8 or 9 and there hasn?t been any face cards the last few cards. Doubling is a good option
